The subject of Baptism has exploded over on xanga. Many of us moms who lost babies to miscarriage or other tragedy, naturally assume our children are at peace with God. The doctrine of Limbo isn’t one that I heard discussed during RCIA. It seems as though this is an area where emotion tends to drive the conversations. In St Matthew 18:10, Jesus said this about children: “See that you despise not one of these little one: for I say to you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father who is in Heaven.” What does that mean? I don’t know. It seems as if angels are entrusted to stand before the face of God on their behalf, but since angels are spirits and have no power in salvation of souls, the passage is a mystery to me. We know that Jesus held children in high esteem. The issue of what happens to the soul of a child deprived of Baptism is best left to the theologians.
